We have a major problem!!

Its with businesses and residences that do not properly identify themselves with their address. If you and your neighbors neglect to display your numerical address in a HIGHLY visible location, it could mean a difference of seconds to minutes in our response time. Your address can be located on the building, but it would be seen better if located next to the road on a mailbox, or post.

When we are responding, we must look everywhere that someone may have placed their address, it could be over the garage, next to or on the front door, on the side of the building or any one of a dozen other places. Please remember it must be able to be seen from a moving vehicle, possibly at night. When installing your address the larger the letters/numbers the better and make sure that they are visible from both directions.

Reflective signs have helped me locate addresses on more than one emergency run. They can be purchased through mail order companies or other corporate means. Go to the hardware store and get it done today!!

There are other ways to be seen. One company sells a light switch that turns your porch light into a FLASHING indicator. All you do is set the switch in the proper position and the light flashers until it's turned off.

You could even have someone stand out by the road and direct us in.

The fact of the matter is, the easier it is for us to find you, the quicker we can render assistance.

Take this little test; drive down your street at night. Imagine that someone is choking and will most likely die within the next 3 minutes. Your job is to get there as fast and safely as possible (obey all traffic laws), locate the address, get to the patient, dislodge the obstruction and save a life. Sounds simple doesn't it. If you have to slow down to read each mailbox or try to search the house with a spotlight for a number, you are wasting valuable time.

Every second counts when you're dealing with someone's life.
